PROPER BUTCHERS SINCE 1820

Pork

Slow-grown, properly hung and scored for crackling – our pork is boned and cut by hand on the block each morning. From Sunday loins to low-and-slow belly and everyday chops, it’s high-welfare British pork, cut fresh today and at your door tomorrow.

Reared well, butchered properly

Good pork starts on the farm. We source pigs raised to real welfare standards, then bone, roll and score every joint by hand on our own block. It’s that time and care that gives you firmer meat, cleaner fat and crackling that crackles.

Our Pork

made the proper way

Pork worth coming back for

Two hundred years is a long time to get something wrong. Leighton Buzzard has had a proper butcher since 1820 – known for generations as Wm. Yirrell – and Abbey Meats carries that on, feeding local families. The knowledge that comes with two centuries of butchery – how to choose a carcass, where the best crackling joint sits, how long a loin wants hanging – isn’t something a supermarket chiller can replicate. When you order pork from us, you’re buying the judgement of proper butchers, not the output of a packing line.

Because we cut to order rather than to a shelf, your pork is prepared fresh before being dispatched – never sitting under lights for days, never frozen and thawed to look the part. Order before 3pm and we’ll have it chilled, carefully packed and delivered to your door.

Ordered the £30 meat pack on a Tuesday, arrived Wednesday morning, all properly chilled. Steak was excellent. Will be ordering again

Been meaning to leave a review for ages. We switched from the supermarket after a friend recommended these and honestly there's no comparison - the pork especially. Delivery driver even carried it in for me as was a heavy box. Little things.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure about ordering meat online. Turns out it's better than what I was getting at the supermarket "fresh" meat counter. The bacon is the real winner, was proper thick cut, and doesn't shrink to nothing in the pan.

Absolutely brilliant. The burgers went down a storm at our BBQ and a certain guest (you know who you are) wanted to know where I'd got them... High praise!

We used to go to Yirrells years ago so it's lovely to see the same quality still going. Ordered lamb for Sunday and it was every bit as good as I remember - thanks for your advice Mark.

Meat quality is genuinely excellent - the beef joint was superb. Only thing I'd say is I'd like a few more options in the smaller packs. Otherwise no complaints at all.
