PROPER BUTCHERS SINCE 1820

Christmas Hub

Christmas at Abbey Meats has been generations in the making. Since 1820, our butchers have prepared the centrepiece of Leighton Buzzard’s festive tables – hand-selected turkeys, dry-cured gammons and heritage-breed joints, readied with the same care that has defined this craft for over two centuries.

from turkey to trimmings

From the crown of the meal to the smallest trimming, everything is prepared in-house. Free-range bronze turkeys, three-bird roasts, chipolatas wrapped in dry-cured bacon, and beautifully marbled rib of beef.

Our Christmas Meat

made the proper way

Festive meats worth coming back for

Our Christmas turkeys are free-range bronze birds, slow-grown on smaller farms for flavour and dry-plucked and game-hung in the traditional way – the process that gives the meat its depth and keeps it succulent from crown to leg. Each bird is prepared oven-ready by hand, so the only work left to you is the cooking.

The gammons are cured to a recipe used for generations, ready to glaze and bake into a proper Boxing Day ham. Beside them sit hand-linked pork chipolatas, sage-and-onion stuffing and dry-aged rib of beef – every item cut, seasoned and made up by the same butchers, to the standards Wm. Yirrell set in 1820.

Heritage British butcher hand-trussing a prepared bronze turkey crown with butcher's string on an oak block — Abbey Meats of Leighton Buzzard Christmas butchery.

Ordered the £30 meat pack on a Tuesday, arrived Wednesday morning, all properly chilled. Steak was excellent. Will be ordering again

Been meaning to leave a review for ages. We switched from the supermarket after a friend recommended these and honestly there's no comparison - the pork especially. Delivery driver even carried it in for me as was a heavy box. Little things.

I'll be honest, I wasn't sure about ordering meat online. Turns out it's better than what I was getting at the supermarket "fresh" meat counter. The bacon is the real winner, was proper thick cut, and doesn't shrink to nothing in the pan.

Absolutely brilliant. The burgers went down a storm at our BBQ and a certain guest (you know who you are) wanted to know where I'd got them... High praise!

We used to go to Yirrells years ago so it's lovely to see the same quality still going. Ordered lamb for Sunday and it was every bit as good as I remember - thanks for your advice Mark.

Meat quality is genuinely excellent - the beef joint was superb. Only thing I'd say is I'd like a few more options in the smaller packs. Otherwise no complaints at all.
